ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Angels lost minor-league catcher Ryan Budde Ryan Dean Budde (born August 15, 1979, in Midwest City, Oklahoma) is a professional baseball player for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Major League Baseball. He is currently the team's back-up catcher.  to Philadelphia in the major-league phase of Thursday's Rule V draft, but it was hardly a major hit.

Budde spent most of last season backing up either Jeff Mathis Jeffrey Stephen "Jeff" Mathis (born March 31, 1983 in Marianna, Florida, USA) is a major league baseball catcher playing with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and made his Major League debut on August 12, 2005 with them. He bats and throws right handed.  or Mike Napoli Michael Anthony "Mike" Napoli (b. October 31, 1981 in Hollywood, Florida) is a Major League Baseball catcher with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Napoli attended Charles Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
 at Triple-A Salt Lake, but Phillies scouts must have seen something the Angels' brass didn't.

Budde will go to spring training with the Phillies and attempt to make the club. If he doesn't -- or if the Phillies decide at any point next season that they don't want him on their active roster -- he must be waived.

If he clears waivers, he then must be offered back to the Angels for $25,000, half what the Phillies paid to take him in the Rule V draft.

Both the Angels and Dodgers had full 40-man rosters entering the draft, which precluded either team from drafting any players.
