This year the retired teachers group raised $935 through the receipts toward its six scholarship grants of $800 each.

Lion has gone so far as to have receipts mailed to her while she was on vacation. Not just as a joke, fellow retired teachers brought her six envelopes of receipts to the recent ceremony in her honor at the Angels Among Us store in the Lancaster Marketplace.

Lion even includes receipts in her ironing, because KAVC gives extra points for neatness.

Her neat stacks of receipts on a table went flying, however, on a hot day.

``I put the fan on yesterday to do something and they all blew off,'' said Lion, who then chased them all down.

Lion hopes that another will take on her volunteer job. She has decided it is time for her to step aside.

``I've done this for six years, and I'm 82 years old, and I need to spend more time with my family and friends,'' said Lion, who has been married to Bill Lion for 61 years.
