MURRAY must see off in-form Marin Cilic at the French Open tomorrow after reaching the fourth round for the first time.

The British No.1 went through last night when his Serb opponent Janko Tipsarevic retired hurt after losing the first two sets.

Murray needed 74 minutes and a tie-break to see off the world No.65 in a first set where he saved two set points.

But the unseeded Tipsarevic, 24, then needed treatment on a hamstring strain and, after limping on, opted to quit after losing the second set 6-3. World No.3 Murray becomes the first Brit to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros Roland Garros may refer to:

 in 2004.

But the Scot faces 13th seed Cilic, the Croat who set a new record among current players by dropping only 21 games and no sets in reaching the fourth round for the first time.

Murray has beaten the 20year-old on their two previous pro meetings, but Cilic won their only meeting on clay in the semi-final here in the 2005 Juniors.

"He's a very good player and he goes for his shots," Murray admitted. "He's got a big game and he's dangerous if he's confident."

And speaking about his early slip against Tipsarevic, Murray said: "You just fight and try and try to come back. That's the one thing on clay - it's much easier to come back. One break on this court is nothing.

"You can always find ways to come back."

Cilic, who beat beat 18th seed Radek Stepanek 6-1 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 yesterday, said: "Clay's obviously not his best surface so I have a chance."
