ANDY'S RETURN DATE; Update.

BRITISH tennis No.1 Andy Murray intends to make his return from a wrist injury at the LeggMason Classic, which starts on July 30 in Washington.

The Scot said: "Washington is where I'll play next. I'm much better. My wrist has responded really well to treatment and the careful approach I've taken."

Glasgow's Jamie Baker lost 1-6 6-1 6-3 to Israeli No.2 Noam Ukunin at the Comerica Challenger in California.

RUGBY UNION: Robbie Russell, London Irish and Scotland hooker, 31, has been forced to retire through injury aged 31. He won 27 caps and scored four tries.

CYCLING: Frenchman Cedric Vasseur won the 142.6-mile 10th stage of the Tour de France from Tallard to Marseille. He pipped countryman Sandy Casar by inches at the finishing line, with Swiss rider Michael Albasini third.

CRICKET: Gavin Lowrey has been told by SNCL chiefs that the ban on him playing, in place since his move from Corstorphine to Weirs two months ago, has been lifted.

VOLLEYBALL: Great Britain's women's team were narrowly beaten 27-25 28-26 20-25 22-25 15-11 in Denmark. The team included four Scots - Jo Morgan, Jennifer Thom, Anneka Hastings and Lynne Beattie.
