Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - Vladimir Guerrero Vladimir Alvino Guerrero (born February 9, 1976 in Don Gregorio, Nizao, Dominican Republic), and known in his native Dominican Republic as Miquéas (Spanish for Micah), is a Major League Baseball right fielder who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  provided the blast heard 'round Orange County, but it was a dinker that won a game the Angels nearly let get away.

Joe Crede Joseph Crede (born April 26, 1978 in Jefferson City, Missouri) is an American Major League Baseball player who is currently the starting third baseman for the Chicago White Sox.  and drove in two runs in the eighth inning to give the Angels a critical 7-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. The White Sox are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the White Sox have played in U.S.  before 42,431 at Angel Stadium.

The victory for the moment moved the Angels to within 1 1/2 games in the American League West The American League West is one of three divisions in Major League Baseball's American League. The division currently has four teams, but it has had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. , pending the outcome of the Oakland-Cleveland game, which was tied in the 10th inning.

Guerrero's homer in the seventh might have, and probably should have, been enough because it gave the Angels a 5-2 lead. But Francisco Rodriguez Francisco Rodriguez may refer to:

allowed three runs (one unearned) in the top of the eighth, allowing the White Sox to tie it.

David Eckstein David Mark Eckstein, (born January 20, 1975 in Sanford, Florida), is a Major League Baseball shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is noted for his size, as he is a small (for professional sports) 5' 7", but weighs 175 pounds.  got the winning rally started with an infield single and he went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chone Figgins. Eckstein went to third on a groundout by Darin Erstad before Guerrero was walked intentionally.

Anderson, facing lefty Damaso Marte, got the hit of the night, even if it wasn't the hardest hit ball.

The Angels entered their half of the seventh trailing 2-1, despite a solid pitching performance by starter John Lackey (6 innings, 2 runs, 8 hits). However, White Sox starter Jon Garland (Kennedy of Granada Hills) held the Angels to one run and five hits through six.

But Bengie Molina opened the seventh with a walk, and Dallas McPherson, making his major-league debut, pinch ran for him.

After a sacrifice by Eckstein and a walk by Figgins, Erstad stepped to the plate with runners on first and second and one out, and blooped a single to shallow left-center despite a diving effort by center fielder Aaron Rowand.

McPherson scored on the play to tie the game at 2, bringing up Guerrero.

Jon Adkins then entered the game and Guerrero launched Adkins' first pitch into the left-field seats for a 5-2 lead. It was Guerrero's 30th homer of the season, the sixth time in his career he's reached that plateau.

The Angels had two more singles and a walk in the inning, but failed to score when pinch hitter Casey Kotchman struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning. Jose Guillen got his third hit of the game in the inning, but had to leave for a pinch runner because of stretched nerve in his right arm.

Usually, that three-run lead would have been enough for the Angels, especially considering they were 66-5 when leaving after seven innings this year. With Rodriguez entering the game to start the eighth, the Angels surely felt good about their chances.

But an Adam Kennedy error on a grounder by Carlos Lee got the White Sox started. After a single by Paul Konerko, Ross Gload doubled home one run. One out later, Timo Perez singled home two more to tie the game at 5.

The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a double by Gload and an RBI RBI

Lackey, though, was saved from further damage by Figgins, who made a sliding grab of a smash hit by Crede, starting a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

The White Sox increased their lead to 2-0 in the third after a double by Aaron Rowand and an RBI single by Carlos Lee, but Lackey did not allow another run the rest of the night.
