ANDERSEN HONORED WITH SCANDINAVIAN AWARD EDITOR SPREADS DANISH NEWS IN U.S.

Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - Poul Dalby Andersen, 77, editor and publisher of the Danish-language newspaper Bien, was honored recently as the 15th recipient of the Outstanding Scandinavian American Scandavia refers to the 3 Countries of:
  • Danish American
  • Norwegian American
 Award by the American Scandinavian Foundation of Thousand Oaks.

Bien, which means ``bee,'' was founded in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  in 1882 and has a worldwide circulation within the Danish community. It covers news from San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , and also offers the latest news from Denmark.

Andersen was honored March 10 in ceremonies at California Lutheran University's Overton Recital Hall.

In 1975, Andersen emigrated to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and he and his wife, Judy, bought Bien. They moved the newspaper from San Francisco to Los Angeles that same year.

``I have printers' ink in my veins,'' said Andersen, who has two grandchildren and lives the Hollywood Hills. ``My whole family is in the newspaper business. They are editors, or journalists, in the printing business or working on a newspaper. When I was born, it was decided I was going to be either a printer or a journalist. So I decided to be a printer.''

In 1982, Andersen was knighted by Queen Margrethe of Denmark for his efforts in uniting the American Danish community. In his hometown of Aalborg, Northern Jutland, Denmark, Andersen served as honorary Mayor of the Day during the city's annual Fourth of July Fourth of July, Independence Day, or July Fourth, U.S. holiday, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Celebration of it began during the American Revolution.  holiday in 1986.
