ANDATACO delivers ultimate tape solution with new ESP DLT 7000.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1996--ANDATACO Wednesday announced the release of its ESP (1) (Enhanced Service Provider) An organization that adds value to basic telephone service by offering such features as call-forwarding, call-detailing and protocol conversion.  DLT (Digital Linear Tape) A magnetic tape technology originally developed by Digital for its VAX line. The technology was later sold to Quantum, which makes it available to other manufacturers. DLT uses half-inch, single-hub cartridges similar to IBM's 3480/3490/3590 line.  7000, which incorporates advanced DLT tape technology with its intelligent Enterprise Storage Packaging (ESP).

In addition to proactive storage management, the ESP DLT 7000 also boasts superior performance with 35 GB (native) capacity per cartridge, and a 2.25 (native) MB/s data transfer rate.

The DLT 7000 is the next generation in DLT technology, evolving from its predecessor, the DLT 4000. While they both use the same media, the DLT 7000 implements a symmetrical symmetrical

phase recording technique (it reads/writes at a nine degree angle) vs. the 4000's traditional horizontal recording method.

Also, the DLT 7000's track width was reduced from the 4000's 3 mils to 1.75 mils. These primary changes facilitate the DLT 7000's increased data storage capacity and transfer rates.

ANDATACO's ESP program manager, Michelle Hagen commented: "This technology (the DLT 7000) is truly state-of-the-art. It may be the fastest, most reliable, largest capacity tape device on the market."

A potential downfall of the new DLT 7000 drive is its elevated running temperature. Hagen stated: "People will have problems cooling this drive. That is why ANDATACO bundled it with ESP. In addition to facilitating its hotter temperatures, ESP also increases the DLT 7000's fault tolerance See fault tolerant.

ESP is a revolutionary cable-less enclosure for disk, tape, optical and RAID subsystems -- expandable in size. Its intelligent microprocessor monitors a system's components and proactively alerts administrators of possible failures via visual, audible, alphanumeric alphanumeric (ăl'fənmĕr`ĭk) or alphameric (ăl'fəmĕr`ĭk), the set of letters and numbers.  pager and e-mail alarms.

By eliminating unplanned downtime, ESP dramatically increases data accessibility and user productivity.

Hagen concluded, "By encasing the DLT 7000 in our ESP technology, ANDATACO delivers the ultimate in tape storage solutions -- offering both elevated performance and maximum fault tolerance."
