As the competition executive director, Marvin Cobb, counted through the top 10 toward first place, El Camino team members, knowing they were in close competition with Fresno County's Edison High School Edison High School is the name of many schools named after Thomas Edison: Schools with the full name:
When Cobb announced the second-place team was Edison, the El Camino students jumped up and started shouting and cheering. ``I can't describe this feeling,'' said team member Cassidy Ellis a few minutes after the ceremony, while others were still jumping up and down and chanting. ``This is the best. I thought (the) city (competition) was the most excited I've ever been in my life, and this is just - I can't describe this.'' El Camino was already unofficially ranked top in the nation coming into this weekend's state event, but scoring 50,472.8 points was a rare feat. In fact, the last team to score that high in a California state final was also from El Camino - in 1998, when the school went on to win one of its two national titles. Since then, three other California schools have also won the national title, but scored lower in the state finals than El Camino's tally this year. In all, California schools have won 11 national titles, placing them one behind Texas schools. The national competition will be April 14 to 17 in Boise, Idaho “Boise” redirects here. When a team gets above 45,000 that means they are working their tails off. It's an incredible achievement. It would be surprising to hear of another state champion with a higher score than El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:
``El Camino has a tradition. They're already two-time champions. I'm going to assume they're going to intensify what they've done to achieve at the state level. They ... desperately want to defend that title and keep the national trophy here in California.'' Actually, El Camino coach Mark Johnson Mark Johnson may refer to: Academics and scientists
``It can't be any more intense,'' Johnson said. ``We've got to keep it up at the same level. It's tough, because these kids are burned out. But they don't want to go all the way and (not win).'' Please come and get me now; I want to make the awards ceremony,'' she said she kept pleading.
