Before Oscar De La Hoya Oscar de la Hoya (IPA pronunciation: [ˈɑs.kɛɹ dɛ.lɑ.ˈhɔɪ.jɑ][1]) (born February 4, 1973) — nicknamed the Golden Boy  and Julio Cesar Julio Cesar could refer to those people:
  • Julius Caesar, Ancient Roman dictator
  • Julio César González, light-heavyweight boxer
  • Julio César Chávez, Mexican boxer, world champion
Football (soccer) players
Chavez meet in one of recent history's biggest bouts on June 7 in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. , they must survive the grueling pre-fight preparation.

Training? No, that's nothing compared to what the fighters must face the next week and a half.

De La Hoya La Hoya is a municipality located in the province of Salamanca, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 30 inhabitants. , Chavez and many others linked to the fight embarked Monday on a coast-to-coast-and-back, 23-city promotional tour they will complete in only 12 days.

They started with a news conference at the Olympic Auditorium on Monday morning - attended by around 800 people - and will end up in Las Vegas on March 15, with each fighter and his handlers flying separately from city to city on private jets owned by Caesars Palace Caesars Palace is a luxury hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. Caesars Palace is owned and operated by Harrah's Entertainment. Caesars is located on the west side of the Strip, between the Bellagio and the Mirage. , the site of the bout.

On most days, news conferences are scheduled in two cities, one in the morning, followed by a quick flight, and another in the afternoon in the next city.

And on what promise to be two energy-sapping days - Phoenix, Albuquerque and El Paso El Paso (ĕl pă`sō), city (1990 pop. 515,342), seat of El Paso co., extreme W Tex., on the Rio Grande opposite Juárez, Mex.; inc. 1873.  today, and Atlanta, Philadelphia and Atlantic City Atlantic City, city (1990 pop. 37,986), Atlantic co., SE N.J., an Atlantic resort and convention center; settled c.1790, inc. 1854. Situated on Absecon Island, a barrier island 10 mi (16.  on Saturday - they plan to cram three news conferences into seven-hour periods.

Obviously, they're doing all they can to get the word out.

Why endure such torture? For the most basic and understandable of reasons: money.

The outdoor arena at Caesars Palace reportedly is sold out already - reportedly the second fastest sellout in boxing history. However, there are plenty of seats remaining at arenas and theaters nationwide and in Mexico where the fight will be broadcast closed circuit.

And the more seats that are filled, the more cash promoter Bob Arum Robert "Bob" Arum (born December 8, 1931 in New York City) is a Harvard-educated lawyer who helped the White House during President John F. Kennedy's time there. He also worked for the US Attorneys Office for the southern district of New York, in the Tax division.  and the fighters can stuff into their pockets. De La Hoya and Chavez are guaranteed $9 million each but could make more if the fights sells well.

"I'm ready I'm Ready is the double platinum second release from R&B singer Tevin Campbell. I'm Ready yielded the biggest R&B hit of his career the #1 R&B smash "Can We Talk", and produce 3 more successful hits in "I'm Ready", "Always In My Heart" and "Don't Say Goodbye Girl".  for it," De La Hoya said at the L.A. news conference. "It's really going to help build up this fight for what it is - a big one.

"I think I'm going to enjoy it."

Even though it's potentially lucrative, the trip figures to be taxing, particularly for two proud fighters only three months from what is expected to be a defining night in their outstanding careers.

What will the whirlwind tour be like for them? What will they encounter? What, if any, toll will it take?

Well, it just so happens there was an empty seat on one of the planes and the Caesars Palace people are allowing a Daily News reporter to use it, which will provide a unique glimpse into the lives of two of the sports greatest figures when their guards are down.

The reporter will go as far as Philadelphia - or coast-to-coast - and file daily reports on the hectic travel, news conferences and everything else he encounters along the way.
