Ancier, known as an enthusiastic, intelligent and unabashed fan of television programming, had enjoyed success at the Fox and WB networks. He resigned after he found he didn't fit as comfortably into NBC's corporate structure.

NBC had a disappointing launch of its new fall shows. Three new series have already been canceled, and only one, ``Ed,'' has received any critical acclaim.

``This is not about the programming,'' insisted Ancier's boss, Scott Sassa Scott Sassa

``This was not something I had been thinking about, but I'm looking forward to working with the whole team in Burbank. It was a tough decision - I thought I had the greatest job in television. But I also thought it might be the right time to take that opportunity. There's a lot for me to learn.''
