The First Call/Thomson Financial survey of six analysts anticipates that the trend of losing quarters begun last year will continue for the Westlake Village-based Internet service provider Internet service provider (ISP)

. Most analysts who cover the company still rate it a buy or strong buy.

Vik Mehta of Goldman, Sachs and Co. thinks the company can beat the consensus earnings estimate. He added that the company's losses should not be as drastic as last quarter when its gross margin was negative 9 percent.

``It'll be important for the company to show an upward tick tick: see mite.

NetZero, which touts itself in its aggressive ad campaigns as the ``defender of the free world,'' has weathered a battle for survival to which several other free Internet providers Internet provider - Internet Service Provider  have succumbed. Investors have beaten down its stock, dropping it Tuesday to the lowest price in NetZero's brief history as a public company. Shares closed at $4.88, down 22 cents on light volume of 550,000 shares.

Mehta thinks investors aren't looking at the big picture, one that includes NetZero venturing into offerings like fee-based wireless services. Mehta also points out who shares the picture with NetZero: giant investors like General Motors and Cisco.

``Unlike other dot-coms, NetZero is one of the few that has its income coming from well-funded customers,'' Mehta said.
