ANALOG DEVICES DELIVERS FIRST BLACKFIN DSPS AND ANNOUNCES NEW LOWER-COST VERSION.

Analog Devices Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI) is an American multinational producer of semiconductor devices. Analog specializes in ADC, DAC, MEMS, and DSP chips for consumer and industrial goods. Analog is presently designing circuits in the 65 nanometer to 3 µm process feature sizes range. , Inc. (NYSE NYSE

: ADI), a producer of high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, has announced general sampling of the ADSP-21535 Blackfin DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive . The ADSP-21535 is a highly integrated, high performance 16-bit DSP and the world's first DSP to deliver the Micro Signal Architecture jointly developed with Intel Corporation.

The ADSP-21535 also includes Dynamic Power Management, which throttles the power consumption of the DSP as the performance requirements of the application change. Operating at 300MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. , the ADSP-21535 delivers 600 MMACS MMACS Maintenance, Mechanical, Arm, and Crew Systems

(million multiply accumulate operations per second) for telecommunications applications and a wide range of Internet appliances such as video telephones, gaming devices, web terminals, NetTVs and smart handheld devices.

The company also announced recently a $10 version of its Blackfin DSP. The ADSP-21532 sets a new price-performance benchmark, delivering 300MHz of performance to consumer applications. The ADSP-21532 extends the benefits of Dynamic Power Management by integrating on-chip voltage regulation to simplify board design and reduce total system costs. The ADSP-21532 also integrates specialized audio (I2S (Inter-IC Sound) An internal digital audio interface for consumer electronics devices such as CD and DVD players, sound processors and digital TV (DTV). It is also used between a digital controller and an analog/digital codec similar to the AC Link and HD Audio Link ) and video (CCIR-656) interfaces making it particularly useful in consumer/professional audio and handheld/portable video applications.

"When we announced the ADI/Intel joint development last December, ADI promised a broad family of general-purpose and application-specific products, targeting high performance, power sensitive applications," said Brian McAloon, group vice president and general manager, DSP and Systems Products division, Analog Devices. "With the current availability of the ADSP-21535, and announcement of our price-performance leading ADSP-21532, ADI is fulfilling its promises with technically advanced solutions for telecommunications, consumer electronics and Internet appliance manufacturers."

The Blackfin DSP architecture combines high performance 16-bit dual MAC signal processing functionality with ease-of-use attributes found in general purpose micro-controllers. Programmable in C and C++, Blackfin DSPs efficiently execute both signal processing and control code. Blackfin DSPs are supported by CROSSCORE, Analog Devices' wide range of DSP software and hardware development tools. The VisualDSP++ Integrated Development Environment See IDE.
