ANADIGICS Teams with HP EEsof to Improve Design Tools.

WARREN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1999--

The Two Companies are Working Together to Improve the Electronic

Design Automation Process and Design Predictability

Recognizing the importance of powerful electronic design automation tools (EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. ), ANADIGICS has teamed with a leading manufacturer of RF/analog EDA systems, HP EEsof, to develop and enhance design tools to improve R&D efficiency. Working with HP Advanced Design System from HP EEsof, engineers at both companies are sharing information on product design and software capabilities.

Effective electronic design automation (EDA) tools play an important role in reducing the number of design cycles, improving R&D efficiency, speeding time to market, and increasing yield for semiconductor products. The ability to accurately simulate a communications device Typically refers to a terminal used to send voice, video or text. Mobile phones, wireless PDAs and personal computers equipped with microphones, speakers and cameras are all considered communications devices. See modem.  is crucial for improving the predictability of new semiconductor designs. "ANADIGICS is very pleased to be working with HP EEsof. Recent new product introductions are examples of the fruits of the partnership, and we look forward to further improving time to market for our new wireless, fiber, and cable products.

With the help of this partnership, we are strengthening ANADIGICS position as a powerful communications IC design leader," observes Tim Laverick, Director of Design Technology, ANADIGICS.

The partnership's key areas of focus include improving package modeling (which is very critical in RF designs), training (sharing information to provide training materials), and integration (working to improve interfaces between HP EEsof tools and other design tools). Long term goals of collaboration include advancing the concept of virtual sampling, the ability to supply software sample that represents a hardware circuit. "Virtual sampling is very important in reducing time to market for us and our customers," reports Shihab Al-Kuran, Manager of Electronic Design Automation, ANADIGICS. "Sharing the same design tools platform combined with virtual sampling, enables ANADIGICS and its customers to work in parallel and exchange critical design information at an early stage of a project. This gives both companies the strategic advantage of a shorter product development cycle."

"ANADIGICS success with HP EEsof design software reinforces the importance of using RF/analog/mixed-signal EDA technology for designing communications ICs," says Jake Egbert, HP EEsof General Manager. "The complexity of these designs, combined with the time-to-market pressures in the industry make HP Advanced Design System a key part of the communications IC design flow. Working with ANADIGICS, a leader in the communications IC market, will provide us with real-time direction and feedback to enhance our ability to deliver more comprehensive communications solutions to our customers."

With Advanced Design System, ANADIGICS has the opportunity to design more complex solutions, particularly for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. , GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) A digital cellular phone technology based on TDMA that is the predominant system in Europe, but also used worldwide. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA).  applications. HP EEsof designed the Advanced Design System to deliver all of the company's design technologies in a single integrated environment, including system, circuit, and electromagnetic simulation, as well as synthesis and physical design. Through this collaboration, both companies expect to bring about significant enhancements to the capabilities of Advanced Design System and other EDA tools, further improving the electronic design tools used by communications circuit designers.

Founded in 1985, ANADIGICS is a pioneer in the manufacture of gallium arsenide An alloy of gallium and arsenic compound (GaAs) that is used as the base material for chips. Several times faster than silicon, it is used in high frequency applications such as cellphones, DVD players and fiber optics.  integrated circuits Integrated circuits

ANADIGICS components are the enabling technology for many of today's products used in consumer electronic applications, including mobile telephones, cable television set-top boxes The cable TV box that sits on "top" of the TV "set," although it is often located several feet away in an equipment rack. To date, ANADIGICS has delivered over 100 million GaAs ICs and was the first GaAs IC manufacturer to receive ISO (1) See ISO speed.
