ANA Tech's Eagle SLI 3840 brings large format scanning to desktop; high performance scanner targets office environment.

LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 1995--ANA Tech (an Intergraph Division) today unveiled the latest in its Eagle line of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.

and monochrome scanners, a unit that incorporates imaging sensor technology to bring large format, cost effective black and white scanning to a broader market.

Weight less than 100 pounds, the Eagle SLI (Scalable Link Interface) A multi-GPU interface from NVIDIA for connecting two or four NVIDIA display adapters together for faster graphics rendering on one monitor or two monitors.  3840 (Straight Line Imaging) is built around a revolutionary large format optical sensor head that uses no cameras. This allows the units to capture an entire scan line A horizontal line (a row) in a video frame. Camcorders sense image frames a line at a time, and display systems create images a line at a time. The scan lines are the vertical resolution of the system; for example, an NTSC TV signal uses 525 lines, 480 of which contain image data  of 15,200 pixels at a true resolution of 400 dots per inch. The optics are internally isolated from outside stresses through a patented three-point mounting technique only available with ANA Tech scanners.

"We listened to the market and what we heard was a need for a competitively priced product that would scan E-sized documents in under 20 seconds. The Eagle SLI3840 priced at $12,800 USA, $15,500 Europe (US Dollars) is a product that offers the accuracy and reliability of our larger scanners in a more compact unit; a product that any company could easily cost justify," said ANA Tech marketing director Gerald Kasten. "That product is the Eagle SLI 3840."

Scanning documents up to 40 inches (101.6 cm) in width with an active scan width of 38 inches, the Eagle SLI 3840 captures line art at variable resolutions from 50 to 800 dots per inch and 256 levels of grayscale In computing, a grayscale or greyscale digital image is an image in which the value of each pixel is a single sample. Displayed images of this sort are typically composed of shades of gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest, though in .

It moreover performs on-board thresholding and deskewing of line art on various media forms, allowing the user to select several thresholding options from an easy-to- use software interface.

ANA Tech general manager Eugene Kleca, the image sensing technology used in the Eagle SLI 3840 is similar to that of facsimile machines and many popular small document scanners.

"We are the first company to stretch and enhance that technology in order to build a product that is capable of handling 38 inches (96.5 cm), rather than fax machines and scanners that can only handle 12 inches (30.5 cm)," Kleca said.

The newest in the Eagle line of scanners was designed by the same award-winning design team that created the console-based Eagle 3640/4080 color and monochrome scanners. At a depth of only 17 inches (43.2 cm), the unit will fit easily on most table tops, making it ideal for smaller office environments or departments within larger organizations. Its international power system streamlines the installation process in most countries around the world.

"This is the first program of its kind in the scanner industry that we know of," said Kasten.

The new Eagle SLI 3840 will also be a key strength in ANA Tech's marketing driven reseller channel, according to Skip Nusbaum, ANA Tech's North American North American
