ANA Tech's Eagle SLI 3840 Brings Large Format Scanning to Desktop; High Performance Scanner Targets Office Environment.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 1995--Intergraph's ANA Tech Division unveiled the latest in its Eagle line of scanners, a unit that incorporates imaging sensor technology to bring large-format, cost-effective black and white scanning to the marketplace.

Weighing less than 100 pounds, the Eagle SLI (Scalable Link Interface) A multi-GPU interface from NVIDIA for connecting two or four NVIDIA display adapters together for faster graphics rendering on one monitor or two monitors.  (Straight Line Imaging) 3840 is built around a revolutionary large-format optical sensor head that uses no cameras. This allows the unit to capture an entire scan line A horizontal line (a row) in a video frame. Camcorders sense image frames a line at a time, and display systems create images a line at a time. The scan lines are the vertical resolution of the system; for example, an NTSC TV signal uses 525 lines, 480 of which contain image data  of 15,200 pixels at a true resolution of 400 dots per inch. The optics are internally isolated from outside stresses through a patented three-point mounting technique only available with ANA Tech scanners.

"We listened to the market and what we heard was a need for a competitively priced product that would scan E-sized documents in less than 20 seconds. The Eagle SLI 3840, priced at $12,800 -- is a product that offers the accuracy and reliability of our larger scanners in a more compact unit, a product whose cost any company could easily justify," ANA Tech Marketing Director Gerald Kasten said.

Scanning documents up to 40 inches (101.6 cm) in width with an active scan width of 38 inches, the Eagle SLI 3840 captures line art at variable resolutions from 50 to 800 dots per inch and 256 levels of grayscale In computing, a grayscale or greyscale digital image is an image in which the value of each pixel is a single sample. Displayed images of this sort are typically composed of shades of gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest, though in . It performs on-board thresholding and de-skewing of line art on various media forms, allowing the user to select several thresholding options from an easy-to-use software interface.

ANA Tech General Manager Eugene Kleca, the image sensing technology used in the Eagle SLI 3840 is similar to that of facsimile machines and many popular small-document scanners.

"We are the first company to stretch and enhace that technology to build a product capable of handling 38 inches (96.5 cm), as opposed to fax machines and scanners that can only handle 12 inches (30.5 cm)," Kleca said.

The self-contained image sensing head has no moving parts Moving parts are the components of a device that undergo continuous or frequent motion, most commonly rotation. "Parts" only include the mechanical components which does not include fuel, or any other gas or liquid.  and is permanently aligned at the factory for reliability and low maintenance.

In addition to offering the Eagle SLI 3840 in a complete package that includes all cables and software needed for the PC and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  environment, ANA Tech is providing customers with an unprecedented 18-month return to factory warranty program.

The newest in the Eagle line of scanners was designed by the same award-winning design team that created the console-based Eagle 3640/4080 color and monochrome scanners. At a depth of only 17 inches (43.2 cm), the SLI3840 unit will fit easily on most table tops, making it ideal for small office environments or departments within larger organizations.
