Domestic passengers overall rose 1.2 percentage points compared with the previous year, with Okinawa proving a particularly popular destination. Peak travel dates for departures from Tokyo were Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30. The peak dates for traffic returning to the capital were Tuesday, January 3 and Wednesday, January 4.

The number of passengers flying internationally was down overall by 3%. However, flights to some cities within Asia, in particular Taipei, out-performed the previous year's results. Outbound traffic from Japan peaked on Thursday, December 29 and Monday, January 2. Inbound peaks were Tuesday, January 3, Wednesday, January 4, Sunday, January 8, and Monday, January 9.
