The network, which unveiled its fall schedule Wednesday, has moved ``Cosby'' to Wednesdays and ``Chicago Hope'' back to Thursday, and it shifted two series - ``Diagnosis Murder'' and ``King of Queens'' - to earlier time slots so it can have established shows lead off each evening.

It also added six new series - three comedies and three dramas. Two ``NYPD'' alums - Sharon Lawrence Sharon Elizabeth Lawrence (born June 29, 1961) is an American television actress. , who already have announced their fall lineup, CBS seems to be striving for stability, scattering the new shows amid the hits. The network, which is likely to win the overall ratings race, canceled ``L.A. Doctors,'' ``Payne,'' ``Maggie Winters,'' ``Promised Land'' and the ``Magnificent Seven.''

Like other networks, CBS is sensing some vulnerability in NBC's Thursday night schedule, the most dominant night in television for more than a decade.

CBS has retooled ``Chicago Hope'' by asking creator David E. Kelley to become more involved in it again, and will move the drama to 9 p.m. Thursday. ABC and the WB, which released their schedules on Tuesday, also promised aggressive efforts to go after NBC on Thursdays.
