best-kiss award at the star-studded award bash taped Saturday on the Sony Pictures Entertainment lot in Culver City and airing on MTV tonight.

Gyllenhaal accepts the gold trophy, shaped like a bucket of popcorn, and calls winning for a same-sex kiss ``a big deal.''

``I said to Heath after the scene filmed, `If we don't win the MTV Award for best kiss, it wasn't worth it,'' he says to wild applause. ``It's worth it now; it's definitely worth it now. It's a real honor that you picked this movie and this kiss over all the other ones.''

Gyllenhaal also takes home the award for best overall performance over such heavyweights as Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Terrence Howard, Steve Carell and Rachel McAdams.

``This is an embarrassment of riches An embarrassment of riches is an idiom that means an overabundance of something, or too much of a good thing, that originated in 1738 as John Ozell's translation of a French play, L'Embarras des richesses (1726). ,'' the actor says after taking the stage a second time. ``I have to admit, I kind of expected best kiss, but I didn't expect this with such steep competition.'' He also thanks Ledger, of whom he says, ``I couldn't have done it without him.''

While Gyllenhaal comes out the biggest individual winner, the 2005 summer blockbuster comedy ``Wedding Crashers'' is named best movie and wins three golden popcorns overall.

The stars of ``Crashers,'' Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, win for best on-screen team, and Wilson laments that the two did not win in the best-kiss category, complaining that ``Brokeback Mountain'' had stolen their thunder.

In the breakthrough-performance category, ``Crashers'' cast member Isla Fisher wins for her role as Vaughn's crazy love interest.

``For most people, playing a bipolar nymphomaniac nymphomaniac

an individual patient habitually showing signs of nymphomania.
would have been a challenge, but for me, I think I was just playing myself,'' Fisher jokes.

While losing in the best-kiss category, Pitt and Jolie, who just had a baby, do win the award for best fight scene, but are not on hand to accept it from presenters Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.

``Angelina and Brad are stuck in traffic between an elephant and an antelope,'' Farrell jokes.

Spike Lee receives the Silver Bucket of Excellence Award for his 1989 film ``Do the Right Thing,'' which was recognized for having a lasting effect on moviegoers and the MTV audience, and injects a dose of sobering reality into the proceedings.

``The sad thing is,'' he says, ``the (racial) issues we tried to address with `Do the Right Thing' are still with us today, so how much progress have we made?''

Presenter Will Ferrell pays tribute to Carrey by reminding the audience that ``while he bent over and talked out of his own ass (in 1994's `Ace Ventura'), he made damned sure we never forgot what he had to say.''

Host Jessica Alba may not be in perennial Oscar host Billy Crystal's league when it comes to movie parodies, but she garners plenty of laughs as she chews the scenery in wacky and sometimes tasteless takeoffs of ``King Kong,'' ``Mission: Impossible III'' and ``The Da Vinci da Vinci Surgery A surgical robot for performing certain surgeries–eg, mitral valve repair and laparoscopic procedures–eg, cholecystectomy and gastric ulcer repair. See Laparoscopic surgery, Robotics, Surgical robot.  Code.''

Alba also wins a trophy herself for sexiest screen performance, in ``Sin City,'' in between changing outfits a number of times during the show's taping.

``Thank you to all the perverts who voted for me,'' Alba jokes before thanking all the fans, to whom she says, `I do movies for you.'''

Other awards go to Hayden Christensen for best villain in ``Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith,'' ``40-Year-Old Virgin'' star Steve Carell for best comedic performance and Jennifer Carpenter for best frightened performance in honor of her role in ``The Exorcism exorcism (ĕk`sôrsĭz'əm), ritual act of driving out evil demons or spirits from places, persons, or things in which they are thought to dwell.
