AMs rap Ieuan for withheld report.


DEPUTY First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones Ieuan Wyn Jones (born 22 May 1949) is leader of Plaid Cymru, Deputy First Minister in the Welsh Assembly Government and Member of the National Assembly for Wales for the Ynys Môn constituency. He was Member of the UK parliament for Ynys Môn constituency from 1987-2001.  faces being hauled in front of a cross-party committee after withholding a report on road building.

AMs on the Finance Committee are furious that Anglesey AM Mr Jones, the minister for transport, has not let them see a report from his ministerial advisory group on his roads strategy.

The Assembly Government says it is still being considered by the minister and a summary will be published after it has gone through the Cabinet.

At a committee meeting yesterday, AMs threatened to use their powers to "subpoena subpoena (səpē`nə) [Lat.,=under penalty], in law, an order to a witness to appear before a court. A subpoena ad testificandum [Lat. " Mr Jones and force him to reveal the internal document, after his office said an earlier plea was being dealt with as a freedom of information request.

Labour AM Joyce Watson (Elizabeth) Joyce Watson is a Welsh Labour Party politician who has been a Member of the National Assembly for Wales for Mid and West Wales since 2007.

An Assembly Government spokesman said: "The Deputy First Minister would be more than willing to meet the chair of the committee to discuss this and reassure the committee, once again, that due process is being followed."

The same approach was adopted with an earlier report in line with Government's code of practice on access to information, he said.
