Regulating temperature the conventional way is never as easy as it seems. Consider homes where certain rooms are always hotter or colder than others. Or walk the halls of any building, and observe the workers. In some areas they wear jackets, and in other areas they wear short-sleeved shirts. Normally, effective temperature control across multiple zones requires careful, frequent monitoring of each thermostat throughout a building - an inefficient use of time and money, at best. But AMX Corporation (Nasdaq:AMXC) is changing all of that with the introduction of its ViewStat Communicating Thermostat System, which makes it possible to control multiple thermostat zones from a single control panel.

The ViewStat system offers enhanced capabilities over the AMX Open Platform Thermostat product, providing customers with independent zone control, thermostat scheduling for near-intuitive temperature control and remote, temperature/humidity-averaging sensors that eliminate hot or cold spots. It has a built-in ICSNet interface, which communicates directly with the award-winning AMX NetLinx Control System. There is no need to develop custom interface code because the NetLinx code module available for download from www.amx.com supports all ViewStat functions.

ViewStat features several dealer benefits. It uses a cat5 cable, terminated with an RJ45 plug instead of individual wires screwed down to a terminal block. Because ViewStat works with heat pumps, single and multistage heating/cooling systems and humidifier/dehumidifier systems, there is no need for dealers to carry multiple thermostat models that are compatible with only one type of system, allowing them to reduce their inventory. ViewStat also supplies an additional revenue stream by enabling the dealer to program messages to be displayed to end-users for regular preventative maintenance, filter changing and other items. The notification can include dealer contact information so the customer is able to easily schedule an appointment.
