The AMU Old Boys team shall be headed by former Olympian Zafar Iqbal and comprises veteran players and Alumni of Aligarh Muslim University. The match will start at 5.45pm.

Promoting hockey

AMU Alumni are pulling efforts to promote hockey in the Sultanate by inviting Zafar Iqbal, who was was awarded the Arjuna award, the highest honour given to sports personalities by the government of India The Government of India (Hindi: भारत सरकार [3]Bhārat Sarkār), officially referred to as the Union Government, and commonly as Central Government . Zafar Iqbal also served as the chief national coach of Indian hockey team. Zafar Iqbal is one of the old student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) which has a rich academic culture and is one of the oldest Universities in India India has both private and public universities. India has a large number of universities supported by the Government of India and the state governments. Apart from these there are private universities supported by various bodies and societies also exist. .

The proud founder of this coveted seat of learning was Sir Syed Ahmed Khan Sir Syed Ahmed Khan Bahadur, GCSI (Urdu: سید احمد خان بہا در , born on October 17, 1817, a time when the colonial rule of the British Raj was firmly entrenched in India.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan rose to be a renowned scholar, historian and social reformer of high repute. He realised that in order to meet the challenges of the new age and for the progress of the Community it was essential that focus should shift from agitational politics to seeking and enhancing knowledge. He was a man of vision.

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan established a Madarsa at Aligarh in 1875 which became Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1877. It was the First Modernist institution in Islam. It blossomed in less than half a century into Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. There are numerous Omani students seeking education at AMU who deeply feel the need of strengthening existing partnerships between the AMU and Arab centers of learning by successfully implementing the teachers and student exchange programs.
