AMQUEST announces world's fastest 33.6 HyperModems using Rockwell Intl. chipset.

LANCASTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 1996--AMQUEST Corp., a PC enhancement company, introduced its new line of 33.6 HyperModems(TM) which deliver up to 300,000 bps maximum throughputs with optimized 8:1 compression -- over 2 1/2 times the speed of conventional 33.6 and 28.8 modems.

AMQUEST is the first modem manufacturer to offer such throughput speed using the popular Rockwell Intl. controller/data pump chipset A group of chips designed to work as a unit to perform a function. For example, a modem chipset contains all the primary circuits for transmitting and receiving. A PC chipset provides the electronic interfaces between all subsystems (see PC chipset for illustration).  widely found in name brand modems. "We are excited to offer this breakthrough 33.6 HyperModem technology to our customers and provide them with affordable products that improve their access to the Internet as well as on-line services," said Robert A. Norman, president of AMQUEST. "With the growth of the Internet, communications users now have the ability to take full advantage of this powerful acceleration technology."

300K HyperModem Breaks the 115K Throughput Barrier

Recognizing that most communications packages only offer port speed selections up to 115k , AMQUEST designed the 33.6 HyperModems to simply install and work just like standard internal V.34 modems. The user simply selects the 115K option in their software package and the HyperModem's 300k max throughput is automatically enabled.

The 33.6 HyperModem is then capable of data throughputs up to 300K with a remote 33.6 HyperModem and up to 115k with ordinary 33.6 modems. With this approach, users avoid installing custom drivers and instantly get 300K maximum throughput using most off-the-shelf popular software including packages like ProComm and Windows 95 HyperTerminal.

Superior 20Mhz Compression Engine for Full-Duplex Communications

In addition, the AMQUEST HyperModems sport a superior 20Mhz compression engine in contrast to 14Mhz found on standard modem designs.

Two-way transfers (also known as full duplex (Computers) arranged so that the information may be transmitted in both directions simultaneously; - of communications channels between computers; contrasted with half duplex(a).  communications) put the most stress on a modem's performance; with its faster 20Mhz compression engine and optimized V.34 firmware A category of memory chips that hold their content without electrical power. Sophisticated Voice Mail and Fax-on-Demand

With advanced voice mail support, the AM3314IV-HY Voice HyperModem can create any number of private mailboxes on the users voice mail system, each with its own custom greeting and special password to retrieve messages.

When users are on the road, they can set up their PC to automatically answer and record calls, receive faxes and make data connections. Callers can access fax documents (price lists, sales flyers, etc.) from any touch-tone telephone with the modem's fax-on-demand system.

Standard Features and Accessories

The AMQUEST 33.6 HyperModems support V.34 / V.Fast Class See V.FC.  33.6 data transmission and lower speed standards as well as 14.4 Group 3 Send/Receive fax. They are compatible with Windows 95, Windows 3.1 and most popular Windows and DOS communications packages.

The software bundle includes an award winning data/fax package from Cheyenne Communications, well regarded by users and industry experts. Also included are Internet access and on-line service offers from America Online See AOL. , CompuServe, GNN GNN - Global Network Navigator , Imagination and others.
