AMQUEST announces world's fastest 28.8 voice modem using Rockwell Intl. chipset.

LANCASTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 1996--AMQUEST Corp., a PC enhancement company based here, introduced its new 28.8 Voice HyperModem offering voice mail, fax-on-demand and up to 230,400 bps data speeds -- twice the throughput of conventional 28.8 modems.

AMQUEST is the first modem manufacturer to offer such throughput speed using the popular Rockwell Intl. controller/data pump chipset A group of chips designed to work as a unit to perform a function. For example, a modem chipset contains all the primary circuits for transmitting and receiving. A PC chipset provides the electronic interfaces between all subsystems (see PC chipset for illustration).  widely found in name brand voice modems. With AMQUEST's exclusive HyperModem 230K technology, users will be able to speed up file transfers, remote control and Internet access See how to access the Internet.  saving on connect time and phone charges.

"Now business users can obtain professional voice mail, fax-on-demand plus the fastest speed for Internet access all in one affordable V.34 modem," said Robert A. Norman, president of AMQUEST. "The Voice HyperModem with 230 Kbps performance leads the pack and we fully expect other modem chip and board makers to adopt this higher throughput technology by the year's end."

Sophisticated Voice Mail and Fax-on-Demand

With advanced voice mail support, the Voice HyperModem can create any number of private mailboxes on the users voice mail system, each with its own custom greeting and special password to retrieve messages.

When users are on the road, they can set up their PC to automatically answer and record calls, receive faxes and make data connections. Callers can access fax documents (price lists, sales flyers, etc.) from any touch-tone telephone with the modem's fax-on-demand system.

230K Voice HyperModem Breaks the 115K Throughput Barrier

Today ordinary 28.8 Kbps voice modems with data compression data compression

The Voice HyperModem breaks this artificial barrier and supports up to 230,400 data rates while maintaining full compatibility with V.34 and V.42bis communication standards. In effect, HyperModem users can enjoy compression ratios compression ratio

Recognizing that most communications packages only offer port speed selections up to 115k , AMQUEST designed the Voice HyperModem to simply install and work just like a standard internal V.34 modem. The user simply selects the 115K option in their software package and the HyperModem's 230k max throughput is automatically enabled.

The Voice HyperModem is then capable of data throughputs up to 230k throughputs with a remote HyperModem and up to 115k with ordinary 28.8 modems. With this approach, users avoid installing custom drivers and instantly get 230K maximum throughput using most off-the-shelf popular software including packages like ProComm and Windows 95 HyperTerminal.

Superior 20Mhz Compression Engine for Full-Duplex Communications

In addition, the AMQUEST Voice HyperModem sports a superior 20Mhz compression engine in contrast to 14Mhz found on standard modem designs.
