AMQUEST announces high performance 64-bit graphics accelerator for Windows 95.

LANCASTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 1995--Tuesday AMQUEST(TM) Corp., a PC enhancement company based here, introduced the SpeedQuest(TM) 64 graphics accelerator A display adapter that performs a specialized set of graphics functions to render an image on screen. Today, all display adapters provide basic rendering functions in hardware, but many have graphics processing units (GPUs) that are sophisticated computers. .

The SpeedQuest 64 combines 64-bit graphics acceleration, high speed EDO memory, and plug-and-play compatibility to improve the video speed and capabilities of Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 based systems.

Fastest 64-bit DRAM accelerator in Windows 95 performance testing

Based on the WinBench 95 performance test, SpeedQuest64 outperformed many of the top graphics vendors by delivering the fastest score of more than 14.3 million Winmarks (Test results were based on the Ziff-Davis WinBench 95 on a 90mhz Pentium system at 1024 x 768, 72Hz).

In contrast to other boards in its class, the SpeedQuest64 ships with custom high speed drivers, employs an S3Trio64 graphics engine and uses superfast 50 nanosecond (1) One billionth of a second. Used to measure the speed of logic and memory chips, a nanosecond can be visualized by converting it to distance. In one nanosecond, electricity travels approximately a foot in a wire.  EDO DRAM. EDO DRAM is a new memory technology that offers faster access times and video speeds than conventional DRAM used in today's 64-bit video card designs.

SpeedQuest64 is available in either PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

(2) (Peripheral Component Interconnect) The most widely used I/O bus (peripheral bus).

versions and supports resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 in 256 colors and flicker-free refresh rates up to 120 Hz.

In a 2MB configuration, the SpeedQuest 64 offers 16.7M true color support at 800 x 600 resolution. Full hardware acceleration of video and graphics functions like bit block transfers (BitBLT), line draw, trapezoidal and polygon fills, clipping and hardware cursor support are included.

"SpeedQuest 64 gives people want they want -- blazing speed, quality and plug and play compatibility for Windows for under $100," said Robert A. Norman, president of AMQUEST Corp. "We are delighted to set the industry pace by delivering such high performance 64-bit graphics solutions at 32-bit card prices."

In addition to speed and plug-and-play support, SpeedQuest64 optimizes video playback in Windows 3.1 with AMQUEST's exclusive MovieZOOM feature. Instead of viewing digital video clips in a tiny window, SpeedQuest64 users can zoom CD-ROM movies up to the full-screen size of their monitor.

This feature is not available with other graphics cards in its class. MovieZoom incorporates unique driver scaling technology to achieve more lifelike images at larger sizes and can be used with standard CD titles like games and multimedia encyclopedias.

MovieZOOM supports most popular video formats including AVI (Audio Video Interleaved) A Windows multimedia video format from Microsoft. It interleaves standard waveform audio and digital video frames (bitmaps) to provide reduced animation at 15 fps at 160x120x8 resolution. Audio is 11,025Hz, 8-bit samples. , Indeo, CinePak as well as those video formats that are Microsoft DCI (Display Control Interface) An Intel/Microsoft programming interface for full-motion video and games in Windows. Bundled with accelerated drivers & convenient video utilities

The SpeedQuest 64 comes with high speed Windows drivers and several utilities design to extend the usability of monitor displays including on-the-fly resolution switching within Windows, an Energy Star screen saver for DPMS See VESA DPMS.
