AMOCO PRODUCTION COMPANY OPENS NEW MEXICO'S FIRST
RETAIL COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS FUELING FACILITY
FARMINGTON, N.M., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Production Company has opened New Mexico's first retail compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station and Amoco's (NYSE: AN) first refueling station wholly dedicated to natural gas.
The retail outlet is the first for Amoco Production, whose sister subsidiary -- Amoco Oil Company -- sells CNG along with gasoline at 11 retail facilities in seven states.
The Farmington station, which will serve both fleets and individual motorists, is situated in the heart of the San Juan Basin and will sell natural gas produced by Amoco from nearby fields.
"Amoco holds the largest block of natural gas reserves in North America and is a major producer in the San Juan Basin," said David Hamrick, Southern Rockies Business Unit vice president. "As the hub of this prolific area, Farmington is strategically positioned to showcase natural gas as a transportation fuel."
Amoco's Southern Rockies Business Unit is converting 200 vehicles to operate on natural gas, and is also negotiating with area fleet owners to convert their vehicles to the clean alternative fuel.
Natural gas, the clean alternative fuel, is abundantly and economically available in the United States. Vehicles powered by natural gas emit significantly less emissions -- including reactive hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide -- that cause the most serious pollution.
Amoco's other CNG retail outlets are located in Denver and Boulder, Colo.; Omaha, Neb.; Topeka and Kansas City, Kan.; Chicago and Warrenville, Ill.; Hammond and Indianapolis, Ind.; Atlanta; and Washington, D.C.
