AMOCO PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS, M.A. HANNA: EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT FOR DISTRIBUTION OF AMODEL PPA THERMOPLASTICS

CLEVELAND, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Performance Products, Inc., a leading producer of engineering thermoplastics, today signed a letter of intent with M.A. Hanna Company (NYSE/MSE: MAH), which will become the exclusive U.S. distributor of Amodel polyphthalamide (PPA) resins.
Amodel PPA resins -- a family of engineering polymers -- were commercialized by Amoco Performance Products in 1991 to offer a series of performance options not associated with other thermoplastics.
The family of Amodel PPA resins provides opportunities to balance high temperature performance with improved mechanical properties, while offering advantages in processing and fabrication.
A selection of applications requiring improved strength and high temperature resistance includes electronics components, under-the-hood automotive parts, electric motors and engines, and consumer durables.
"Our distribution network, our abilities to develop applications and our technical support capabilities provide Amoco Performance Products with a channel to more effectively reach their key markets," said Martin D. Walker, chairman and chief executive officer, M.A. Hanna.
For M.A. Hanna, Walker added, the distribution agreement is a strategic step to enhance the company's portfolio of advanced materials brought to market through its distribution network.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Amoco Performance Products, a subsidiary of Amoco Chemical Company that is based in Alpharetta, Ga., produces Amodel PPA resins at its Augusta, Ga., facility, the only processing plant in the world where these engineering thermoplastics are manufactured.
M.A. Hanna Company, a leading international specialty chemical company based in Cleveland, has 30 resin distribution centers in North America operated by Bruck Plastics Co.; Fiberchem, Inc.; and Plastic Distributing Corporation.
In addition to resin distribution, primary businesses of M.A. Hanna are plastics and rubber compounding, color and additive concentrates for plastics, and distribution of engineered plastic shapes.
