AMOCO BECOMES THE MAJOR CORPORATE SPONSOR OF THE USA SOFTBALL NATIONAL TEAMS

CHICAGO, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Oil Company will be a four- year sponsor of the USA Softball National Teams. This includes the women's national team that will be competing for the first Olympic medals in this sport, during the 1996 games in Atlanta.
"Amoco's sponsorship of softball is part of our commitment to support women and men in their efforts to compete in amateur sports competition. In addition, we hope to heighten awareness of the Olympics' newest sport, which has broad appeal to all age groups," said Jim Nardo, manager of Marketing, Amoco Oil Company. "We are especially proud to support our nation's women's team in their endeavor to achieve a gold medal in Fast-Pitch softball."
In addition to being a national sponsor at many events throughout the United States, Amoco also will support the teams when they participate in pre-Olympic international competitions such as the Olympic festivals.
"This represents the largest long-term corporate sponsorship in the history of USA Softball," said Don Porter, executive director of the Amateur Softball Association/USA Softball.
The women's national team won a gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games in Cuba. "Amoco is hopeful that the women also will be able to take home Olympic gold in the 1996 Olympic games," said Nardo.
