AMOCO AND LAGOVEN SIGN JOINT STUDY AGREEMENT FOR AREA OF MUTUAL INTEREST OFFSHORE VENEZUELA AND TRINIDAD

CARACAS, Venezuela, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Amoco Business Development Company and Lagoven, S.A., an affiliate of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A., signed an agreement yesterday to jointly study the Plataforma Deltana area, located along the offshore border of Venezuela and Trinidad.
The purpose of the study is to determine the hydrocarbon potential of an offshore area of mutual interest to Amoco and Lagoven, according to Greg Rich, Amoco vice president of business development. The 7,000- square-mile study area is located mostly in Venezuelan waters offshore East Venezuela and Southern Trinidad.
Lagoven drilled several exploratory wells in the Venezuelan portion of the study area in the 1970s and early 1980s. Amoco Trinidad Oil Company has large, well-developed oil and gas production operations adjacent to and extending into the area.
"Exploration, production, and marketing experts from both Amoco and Lagoven will combine their significant experience to complete this mutually-beneficial study, working together in a close, cooperative effort," Rich said. "Evaluations will be conducted primarily in Houston and Caracas, with completion scheduled for mid-1994."
Amoco Business Development Company and Amoco Trinidad Oil Company are subsidiaries of Amoco Production Company, the worldwide oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary of Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN).
