AMFA Local 5 Reserves 10-Noon Each Day for In-Person Strike Updates and Routine Media Calls.

AMFA AMFA Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association
AMFA Alternative Motor Fuels Act (PL 100-494)
AMFA Asociación Movimiento Fe y Alegría (Association for Activities of Faith and Joy; Guatemala)
 Local 5:
WHAT: AMFA Local 5 (Detroit) is now setting aside a two-hour time
slot each morning to respond to media inquiries and to
provide in-person updates. AMFA will continue to be
available at other times to discuss breaking news and other
new developments during the Northwest Airlines strike.

In-person updates and interviews. An AMFA officer will
provide in-person updates and be available for interviews in
the parking lot of U.A.W. Local 174, 29841 Van Born Rd.,
         Romulus, Mi. 48174

Phone inquiries. An AMFA officer will be available for phone
inquiries during this time. Contact Bob Rose 734-673-4696 or
         Dennis Sutton 734-634-1657

WHEN: 10:00 a.m. to noon daily, starting immediately.

WHY: The large number of media requests for routine updates and
other non-breaking news throughout the day has caused us to
be less responsive to these requests than we want to be. The
reserved time slot will allow us to be more responsive while
attending to our other responsibilities during the strike.

WHO: Contact Joe Hrobak, communications coordinator
         (734-652-4829), with any questions.

INSIGHT: According to AMFA Local 5 President Bob Rose, "Our last offer
to Northwest before the strike included a nearly 20 percent
reduction in pay, a significant reduction in benefits and the
elimination of jobs. The company still refused to talk to us.
This made me think back to July, when AMFA asked Doug
Steenland, CEO of Northwest Airlines, if he was going to
sacrifice his pay and benefits along with his employees. He
responded that since he could make at least 20 percent more
working for another company, he felt he had already taken a
20 percent pay cut by being at Northwest."
