AMFA Kicks Off Campaign to Represent the United Airlines Mechanics.Business Editors LACONIA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2002 Beginning this week, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is an independent union that represents aircraft maintenance employees of commercial airlines in the United States. AMFA is committed to the principles of craft unionism, in that it seeks to represent only airline mechanics and (AMFA) will commence a campaign to represent United Airlines (UAL) mechanics and related personnel. AMFA National Director, O.V. Delle-Femine is confident they will obtain over 60% of the over 16,000 eligible employees to ensure an election. National Mediation Board The National Mediation Board is a three-person board created in 1934 by an act amending the Railway Labor Act (45 U.S.C.A. §§ 151–158, 160–162, 1181–1188) to resolve disputes in the railroad and airline industries that could disrupt travel or imperil the (NMB NMB new methylene blue. ) rules mandate that 50% plus 1 must be submitted for an election. The one-year bar for an election will end August 9, 2002. AMFA plans to file for an election after this date. In a 1994 vote, AMFA lost the UAL election by only 559 votes. There were 1,000 ballots the NMB could not account for.
