AMERITECH WELCOMES CWA SUPPORT FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESS PLAN

CHICAGO, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The support of key leaders of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) for Ameritech's "Advanced Universal Access" plan was warmly welcomed today by Ameritech Vice Chairman Richard Notebaert.
"I applaud the CWA's vision," Notebaert said, "and their willingness to act on that vision by publicly supporting Ameritech's bold proposals to the FCC."
CWA Secretary-Treasurer Barbara Easterling announced her support for Ameritech's plan at a forum today in Cleveland. Easterling said that the Ameritech plan was also supported by CWA President Morton Bahr and Vice President Robert Johnson.
On Feb. 22, 1993, Ameritech unveiled its "Advanced Universal Access" plan that would open local telephone markets to more competition in exchange for Ameritech's ability to offer all consumers other communications services.
"The support of the CWA leadership shows their courage and commitment to keeping America competitive in world communications," Notebaert said. "With free and fair competition in America's communications marketplace, consumers will get better service at lower prices and we'll be able to create the good jobs that our country and workers need."
