AMERITECH TO MARKET TELLABS DATA COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT AND CROSS-CONNECT SYSTEM IN FIVE STATES

AMERITECH TO MARKET TELLABS DATA COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT AND
 CROSS-CONNECT SYSTEM IN FIVE STATES
LISLE, Ill., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Telecommunications-equipment manufacturer Tellabs Inc., and Ameritech Information Systems Inc., have recently signed a two-year marketing agreement for data communication products and digital cross-connect systems.
Under the terms of this nonexclusive agreement, Ameritech is marketing the Tellabs CROSSNET(a) 44X T1 multiplexers and switching nodes, CROSSNET 240 network terminating unit (NTU), 300 Series statistical multiplexers and packet switches, and TITAN(a) 5300 Series digital cross-connect system to end-users in a five-state region.
The CROSSNET 44X T1 multiplexers and switching nodes are designed to serve a full spectrum of T1/E1 distributed networking applications, from point-to-point multiplexing to public/private hybrid network access. The CROSSNET 440 network multiplexing node concentrates signals from up to 128 data, voice, image or facsimile channels for transmission over T1/E1 facilities. The CROSSNET 442 system, the newest addition to the CROSSNET family, is a desktop version of the popular Tellabs CROSSNET 440 multiplexer designed to fit the needs of smaller applications.
The Tellabs CROSSNET 240 NTU is a high-performance digital transmission system that uses 2B1Q line coding to transmit full-duplex data over a single twisted-wire pair. The 240 NTU can be used to extend the channel-side range of the Tellabs CROSSNET multiplexer. The extended range allows the network operator to economically connect DTE (workstations, printers or file servers, for example) that is not collocated with the CROSSNET multiplexer.
Tellabs 300 Series products provide modular, expandable and economical solutions to data networking. Economical enough for use in point-to-point applications, Tellabs 300 Series packet switches and statistical multiplexers can be expanded to perform key functions in local and wide-area multinode data networks.
The Tellabs TITAN family of digital cross-connect systems offers a wide array of flexible configurations to build and expand digital transmission networks. The TITAN 5300 Series cross-connect systems can establish cross-connections from subrates to full T1, provide performacnce monitoring for all T1, E1 and DS3 ports, and allow network control and reconfiguration from a central point.
Ameritech will market the Tellabs products to end-users in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
