Health Education and Community Programs

AMERIGROUP Corporation launched its REALCaring in America America [for Amerigo Vespucci], the lands of the Western Hemisphere—North America, Central (or Middle) America, and South America. The world map published in 1507 by Martin Waldseemüller is the first known cartographic use of the name.  initiative by presenting nearly $70,000 in Community Caring contributions to 12 national and local Hispanic community-based organizations.

These organizations were selected because their programs enrich the lives of minority women, children and individuals with disabilities.

AMERIGROUP contributed $10,000 to the National Alliance for Hispanic Health. This national organization collaborates with other minority groups on health education programs and to raise awareness about social and political issues that impact the Hispanic community.

In the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area, the Federation of Hispanic Organizations, EBLO EBLO Education-Based Latino Outreach (Baltimore, MD)  and La Clinica del Pueblo received $15,000 to further education and medical assistance in the local Hispanic communities.

In Texas, $5,000 was contributed to the Near Northside Partners Counsel, which serves as a resource center in the Fort Worth Hispanic community. Their services include an elderly care nursing program, housing for low-income residents, English as a Second Language courses and community leadership programs.

Ten-thousand dollars in combined contributions were made in New Jersey to the Hispanic Affairs for Monmouth County and Hispanic Information Center of Passaic County.
