AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed lower today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 1.42 to 410.18. Declines led advances 355 to 221 with 205 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell 4 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 17,203,865 shares, down from the 23,587,615 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours trading activity.
 Topping the most active list was Wang Laboratories, Inc., Class B, up 1/4 to 1 5/16 on 2,612,700 shares, followed by Hillhaven Corporation, unchanged at 4 1/16 on 427,400 shares. The third most active issue, Hanson PLC warrants Class B was down 1/32 to 13/32 on 403,500 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 414,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Colonial Data Technologies, up 3/8 to 1 1/2 on 87,700 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 182,571 contracts changing hands as compared with 222,132 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were generally higher as calls traded mostly lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Japan Sept. 200 series, up 1/4 to 32 3/4 on 2,000 contracts, followed by the S&P Midcap Mar 157 1/2 series, up 5/8 to 1 5/8 on 1,400 contracts. The third most active was the S&P Midcap March 160 series up 1 1/8 to 2 5/8 on 1,301 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Amgen Inc. Feb 65 series, down 1 1/4 to 7/8 on 2,309 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris Mar 75 series down 1/16 to 1 11/16 on 1,979 contracts. The third most active was the Motorola Feb 60 series, down 9/16 to 7/8 on 1,950 contracts.

 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: down 1.86 to 162.16. Contracts volume 7,277, with 6,597 puts and 680 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.11 to 344.45. Contracts volume 4,087, with 2,144 puts and 1,943 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): down 0.12 to 34.44. Contracts volume 170 with 170 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index (XII): down 2.02 to 442.66. Contracts volume 1,084, with 595 puts and 489 calls.
