AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 0.37 to 405.58. Advances led declines 268 to 264 with 239 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 17,364,750 shares, up from the 16,225,060 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours trading activity.
 Topping the most active list was Amdahl, up 1/2 to 8-1/8 on 1,365,800 shares, followed by Exploration Co. of Louisiana, up 1/8 to 1 on 523,200 shares. The third most active issue, Horn & Hardart Co., was up 1/8 to 3-3/8 on 392,400 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 431,300 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Top Source, unchanged at 2-1/2 on 133,900 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 182,906 contracts changing hands as compared with 198,238 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Motorola Feb 55 series, unchanged at 3/8 on 1,909 contracts, followed by the U. S. Surgical Feb 70 series, down 1/4 to 1 on 1,444 contracts. The third most active was the Scitex Corporation Apr 40 series up 3/8 to 2-3/8 on 1,135 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Institutional Index Apr 460 series, unchanged at 1-1/2 on 3,550 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical Feb 80 series up 1/16 to 1-15/16 on 3,207 contracts. The third most active was the Unisys Corp. Feb 12 1/2 series, up 5/16 to 15/16 on 2,976 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .58 to 162.15. Contracts volume 1,027, with 282 puts and 745 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.83 to 342.82. Contracts volume 3,698, with 2,139 puts and 1,559 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .18 to 34.28. Contracts volume 40, with 40 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index (XII): up 2.44 to 440.44. Contracts volume 3,993, with 343 puts and 3,650 calls.
 Institutional Index (PXP): up 2.44 to 440.44. Contracts volume 200, with 100 puts and 100 calls.
 EuroTop 100 Index: down .36 to 441.64. Contracts volume 145, with 45 puts and 100 calls.
 Japan Index: up .27 to 167.24. Contracts volume 183, with 68 puts and 115 calls.
 Pharmaceutical Index: up 1.22 to 184.48. Contracts volume 760, with 412 puts and 348 calls.
 Biotechnology Index: up 1.90 to 156.22. Contracts volume 478, with 236 puts and 42 calls.
 Computer Technology Index: up .58 to 123.05. Contracts volume 10, with 10 puts and 0 calls.
 Oil Index: down .36 to 221.02. Contracts volume 74, with 20 puts and 54 calls.
