AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher today in very heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 3.16 to 409.52. Advances led declines 345 to 259 with 183 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose 9 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 20,001,020 shares, up from the 18,639,325 shares traded Friday. There was no after hours activity.
 Topping the most active list was I.C.H. Corporation, up 1/8 to 5 1/4 on 674,100 shares, followed by Charter Medical Corp, up 1 3/4 to 14 5/8 on 562,500 shares. The third most active issue, Hillhaven was down 1/8 to 4 on 537,700 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 407,700 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Top Source, Inc, up 7/16 to 2 15/16 on 150,600 shares.
 Trading in options was moderate today with 167,488 contracts changing hands as compared with 183,213 contracts traded Friday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the American Express Feb 25 series, unchanged at 1/2 on 1,290 contracts, followed by the Motorola Feb 60 series, down 9/16 to 1 7/16 on 1,057 contracts. The third most active was the Midcap Index Mar 140 series down 1/4 to 1/8 on 1,000 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Institutional Index Feb 475 series, unchanged at 1/16 on 3,400 contracts, followed by the Chase Manhattan Mar 30 series up 1/16 to 1 1/4 on 3,223 contracts. The third most active was the American Express Mar 30 series, up 1/16 to 3/16 on 2,459 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up 1.33 to 164.23. Contracts volume 2,186, with 2,143 puts and 43 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 3.42 to 345.68. Contracts volume 5,462, with 2,899 puts and 2,563 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index (XLT): up .34 to 34.57. Contracts volume 4 with 4 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index (XII): up 4.22 to 445.60. Contracts volume 4,606 with 576 puts and 4,030 calls.
 Institutional Index (PXP): up 4.22 to 445.60. Contracts volume 767 with 142 puts and 625 calls.
 Eurotop 100 Index: down 4.01 to 437.27. Contracts volume 0 with 0 puts and 0 calls.
