AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher today in very heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.50 to 401.06. Advances led declines 340 to 222 with 205 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose seven cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 19,435,700 shares, up from the 14,980,525 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity today.
 Topping the most active list was Fruit of the Loom, down 1-1/2 to 44-3/8 on 1,570,500 shares, followed by Amdahl, up 3/4 to 7-5/8 on 1,446,300 shares. The third most active issue, Royal Oak Mines was unchanged at 1-1/2 on 873,600 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 509,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Audre Recognition Systems, up 1/8 to 5 on 294,200 shares.
 Trading in options was heavy today with 321,614 contracts changing hands as compared with 249,920 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Intergraph Corp. Jan 45 series, down 1/16 to 1/16 on 5,000 contracts, followed by the Digital Equipment Jan 40 series, down 5 to 1/8 on 4,869 contracts. The third most active was the Digital Equipment Apr 40 series down 3-7/8 to 2-1/4 on 2,841 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Digital Equipment Jan 40 series, up 2-3/8 to 2-7/16 on 5,861 contracts, followed by the Motorola Feb 120 series up 4-5/8 to 6-5/8 on 5,623 contracts. The third most active was the Apple Computer Jan 65 series, up 3/4 to 1-7/16 on 5,351 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up 1.60 to 160.90. Contracts volume 2,600, with 1,756 puts and 844 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.55 to 344.61. Contracts volume 7,181, with 3,737 puts and 3,444 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .15 to 34.46. Contracts volume 250, with 250 puts and 0 calls.
