AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE DAILY REPORT

 NEW YORK, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 1.88 to 397.35. Advances led declines 301 to 285 with 178 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell five cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 14,317,810 shares, down from the 18,261,735 shares traded Thursday. After-hours volume totaled zero shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 14,317,810 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Chambers Development, Class A, down 3/8 to 6-1/2 on 611,700 shares, followed by Telephone & Data Systems, down 2 to 38-5/8 on 346,500 shares. The third most active issue, Jan Bell Marketing was down 5/8 to 19-5/8 on 341,500 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 441,900 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., up 1/16 to 1 on 137,100 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 165,007 contracts changing hands as compared with 113,666 contracts traded Thursday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Index February 380 series, up 3/4 to 32-3/8 on 4,500 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index February 225 series, up 1/16 to 1/8 on 4,500 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index March 375 series up 3-1/4 to 27-3/8 on 2,125 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Major Market Index February 225 series, down 3/8 to 122-1/8 on 4,500 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index February 380 series up 1/16 to 1/8 on 4,500 contracts. The third most active was the Unum March 50 series, up 1/4 to 4-1/2 on 3,150 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down 1.47 to 159.08. Contracts volume 3,169, with 1,916 puts and 1,253 calls.
