 NEW YORK, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.83 to 366.88. Declines led advances 257 to 211 with 224 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell two cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 8,851,435 shares, down from the 12,703,305 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 1,000 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 8,852,435 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Echo Bay Mines, unchanged at 6 on 308,000 shares, followed by Amdahl, down 1/4 to 8 on 274,400 shares. The third most active issue, Tubos de Acero de Mexico was down 1/8 to 5-1/2 on 260,600 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 358,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was PC Quote, Inc., down 1/16 to 11/16 on 148,600 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 107,598 contracts changing hands, compared with 142,818 contracts traded yesterday. Puts and calls both traded higher.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the U.S. Surgical November 60 series, down 1/2 to 4-1/2 on 2,763 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical November 50 series, down 7/16 to 1-1/4 on 2,751 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index November 300 series down 1/8 to 1-1/8 on 2,512 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Major Market Index March 375 series, down 1/16 to 2 on 3,300 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris November 85 series down 1/4 to 1 on 2,270 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index October 340 series, down 1-9/16 to 1-15/16 on 1,365 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .55 to 141.17. Contracts volume 3,370, with 3,152 puts and 218 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 3.06 to 335.38. Contracts volume 14,624, with 8,011 puts and 6,613 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .30 to 33.54. Contracts volume 4,530, with 4,480 puts and 50 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 3.06 to 419.33. Contracts volume 2,269, with 954 puts and 1,315 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: 0 to 0. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 Japan Index: down 1.44 to 172.71. Contracts volume 1,164, with 575 puts and 589 calls.
