 NEW YORK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 4.62 to 366.62. Declines led advances 439 to 143 with 170 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell thirteen cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 15,124,570 shares, up from the 10,209,925 shares traded Friday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was Citizens First Bancorp, up 1/8 to 3 on 477,700 shares, followed by Nabors Industries, down 5/8 to 6-1/2 on 458,700 shares. The third most active issue, Fruit of the Loom was down 1-3/8 to 43-1/2 on 326,800 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 300,500 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications Inc., down 1/16 to 13/16 on 59,800 shares.
 Trading in options was very active today with 276,959 contracts changing hands as compared with 162,460 contracts traded Friday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the XMI Leaps December 35 series, up 1/4 to 3-5/8 on 5,630 contracts, followed by the XMI Leaps December 27 1/2 series, unchanged at 1/16 on 5,066 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris October 85 series up 9/16 to 2-1/2 on 3,456 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the U.S. Surgical October 60 series, down 5/16 to 2-1/16 on 3,394 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index October 340 series down 7/8 to 4-1/2 on 2,931 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris October 80 series, down 3/4 to 3 on 2,880 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down 1.54 to 140.50. Contracts volume 3,869, with 3,379 puts and 490 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.83 to 339.91. Contracts volume 23,203, with 11,772 puts and 11,431 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .18 to 33.99. Contracts volume 12,476, with 12,304 puts and 172 calls.
