 NEW YORK, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in light trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 1.24 to 377.25. Declines led advances 279 to 203 with 216 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell four cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 7,462,540 shares, down from the 10,425,560 shares traded Friday. There was no after-hours volume today, keeping the cumulative volume for today at 7,462,540 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Elan Corp., down 1-1/8 to 22-3/8 on 268,500 shares, followed by Turner Broadcasting Systems, Inc., up 1/8 to 18-7/8 on 204,600 shares. The third most active issue, Rhone-Poulenc S.A. was up 1/4 to 3-7/8 on 196,600 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 231,600 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, Inc., unchanged at 3-3/4 on 69,100 shares.
 Trading in options was very light today with 112,253 contracts changing hands as compared with 181,962 contracts traded Friday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Index October 350 series, down 1-5/8 to 3-1/4 on 1,864 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index November 355 series, down 1/8 to 10-3/4 on 1,687 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris October 85 series down 3/16 to 15/16 on 1,473 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Amgen October 70 series, down 1/8 to 3/16 on 2,051 contracts, followed by the Digital Equipment January 7 1/2 series up 3/8 to 4-1/4 on 1,840 contracts. The third most active was the S&P Midcap 400 October 147 1/2 series, down 1/2 to 7/16 on 1,300 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .34 to 143.23. Contracts volume 2,696, with 1,303 puts and 1,393 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 2.66 to 351.41. Contracts volume 7,282, with 6,067 puts and 1,215 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .27 to 35.14. Contracts volume 333, with 333 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 2.13 to 432.22. Contracts volume 1,504, with 1,129 puts and 375 calls.
