 NEW YORK, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 0.66 to 381.44. Advances led declines 262 to 210 with 250 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose two cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 10,438,140 shares, down from the 11,408,520 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 500 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 10,438,640 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Medco Research, Inc., down 2-1/4 to 12-7/8 on 662,500 shares, followed by IVAX, down 5/8 to 26-7/8 on 319,100 shares. The third most active issue, Nabors Industries was unchanged at 7-3/4 on 291,100 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 321,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Top Source, Inc., down 1/16 to 1-15/16 on 188,200 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 110,055 contracts changing hands as compared with 90,396 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Intel Corp December 40 series, up 1/16 to 1/4 on 6,750 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris October 85 series, down 3/8 to 3-3/4 on 1,063 contracts. The third most active was the Japan December 140 series up 7/16 to 2-7/8 on 832 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Phillip Morris October 85 series, up 3/16 to 15/16 on 2,380 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris December 85 series up 1/8 to 2-5/16 on 1,821 contracts. The third most active was the Triton Energy Corporation September 35 series, up 1-3/8 to 3-7/8 on 1,351 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
