 NEW YORK, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.40 to 380.78. Declines led advances 248 to 241 with 229 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,408,520 shares, up from the 11,217,730 shares traded Friday. After-hours volume totaled zero shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 11,408,520 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Citizens First Bancorp, Inc., down 1/4 to 3-1/4 on 398,100 shares, followed by United States Banknote Corporation, down 1/8 to 5-3/8 on 290,000 shares. The third most active issue, Energy Service Company, Inc. was unchanged at 1-3/8 on 230,300 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 142,500 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, down 1/4 to 2-5/16 on 32,000 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 90,396 contracts changing hands as compared with 110,129 contracts traded Friday. Puts and calls were both lower.
 Topping the most active lst in puts was the American Express December 20 series, down 1/8 to 2-5/16 on 750 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index September 350 series, up 1/8 to 4-1/4 on 641 contracts. The third most active was the Phillip Morris September 80 series down 1/8 to 5/8 on 560 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Lotus Development Corporation September 17 1/2 series, down 1/16 to 5/16 on 1,566 contracts, followed by the Chevron Corporation September 75 series up 3/16 to 9/16 on 1,205 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index October 365 series, down 1/4 to 7/8 on 1,202 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .02 to 142.71. Contracts volume 270, with 200 puts and 70 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.03 to 348.43. Contracts volume 6,015, with 2,066 puts and 3,949 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .11 to 34.84. Contracts volume 16, with 7 puts and 9 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 1.02 to 431.20. Contracts volume 726, with 428 puts and 298 calls.
