 NEW YORK, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.35 to 381.00. Advances led declines 276 to 217 with 206 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose four cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 12,858,400 shares, up from the 9,856,150 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported.
 Topping the most active list was Citizens First Bancorp,Inc., down 1/4 to 4-3/4 on 383,200 shares, followed by Amdahl Corporation, up 1/2 to 13-5/8 on 333,500 shares. The third most active issue, North American Vaccine, Inc. was down 5/8 to 8-1/8 on 304,500 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 155,300 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, down 3/16 to 2-9/16 on 35,800 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 146,161 contracts changing hands as compared with 161,717 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the S & P Midcap 400 October 140 series, down 1-3/8 to 2-1/8 on 1,365 contracts, followed by the Novell, Inc. September 50 series, down 1/2 to 1-3/4 on 1,162 contracts. The third most active was the Tele-Communications, Inc. October 17 1/2 series down 1/8 to 1/2 on 1,000 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Phillip Morris September 80 series, up 7/16 to 1-15/16 on 2,585 contracts, followed by the Phillip Morris December 80 series up 3/8 to 4-1/8 on 2,495 contracts. The third most active was the Institutional Index October 455 series, up 1/16 to 1 on 2,210 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up 1.06 to 142.60. Contracts volume 3,093, with 2,535 puts and 558 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .20 to 347.99. Contracts volume 6,188, with 3,366 puts and 2,822 calls.
