 NEW YORK, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.75 to 388.85. Advances led declines 308 to 209 with 209 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose five cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 10,168,795 shares, down from the 11,206,330 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity.
 Topping the most active list was Daxor Corporation, down 3/8 to 13-3/4 on 1,028,900 shares, followed by Wang Systems Class B, up 1/8 to 2-1/4 on 474,500 shares. The third most active issue, Plains Resources was down 2-3/4 to 17-5/8 on 336,600 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 140,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Spectrum Signal Processing, unchanged at 2 on 26,500 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 130,967 contracts changing hands as compared with 145,137 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the U.S. Surgical August 90 series, up 1/2 to 3-1/2 on 2,323 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical August 85 series, up 13/16 to 1-15/16 on 2,061 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical August 95 series up 1 to 6-1/2 on 1,633 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Pfizer Inc. December 70 series, up 3/8 to 10 on 3,505 contracts, followed by the Pfizer Inc. September 70 series unchanged at 8-3/8 on 2,792 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical August 95 series, down 1/8 to 1-3/4 on 1,781 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .43 to 146.55. Contracts volume 1,533, with 204 puts and 1,329 calls.
 Major Market Index: up .36 to 359.53. Contracts volume 6,897, with 3,537 puts and 3,360 calls.

 Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed higher this week in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 6.32 for the week to 388.85. The Market Value Index reached its intraday high of 388.85 on Friday and slipped to its intraday low of 381.69 on Monday. The average price per share rose eight cents this week.
 Regular session stock volume for the week totaled 58,069,965 shares, up from the volume of 57,171,395 shares traded last week.
 Options trading was moderate this week as 778,995 contracts changed hands, compared with 616,520 contracts traded in last week's session.
