closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.16 to 387.10. Advances led declines 273 to 232 with 223 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose three cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,206,330 shares, down from the 15,123,835 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled zero shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 11,206,330 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Wang Systems, Class B, up 1/4 to 2-1/8 on 943,800 shares, followed by Chambers Development Corp., Class A, up 1/4 to 8-5/8 on 503,300 shares. The third most active issue, Amdahl was up 3/8 to 14 on 405,800 shares.

 Today's cumulative volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 180,000 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, Inc., up 1/16 to 3-3/8 on 31,900 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 145,137 contracts changing hands as compared with 171,501 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Index December 300 series, down 5/16 to 1-3/8 on 2,850 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index March 300 series, down 1-3/8 to 3-1/8 on 2,850 contracts. The third most active was the Eli Lilly & Company September 65 series down 1/16 to 7/16 on 2,719 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Silicon Graphics Inc. November 22 1/2 series, up 3/4 to 1-3/4 on 5,220 contracts, followed by the Silicon Graphics, Inc August 20 series up 1-5/16 to 2 on 3,781 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index October 380 series, up 3/8 to 1-1/16 on 3,320 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .73 to 146.12. Contracts volume 2,317, with 1,377 puts and 940 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 1.51 to 359.17. Contracts volume 18,599, with 10,372 puts and 8,227 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .15 to 35.92. Contracts volume 11, with 11 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 1.78 to 439.04. Contracts volume 1,082, with 839 puts and 243 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: up 1.78 to 439.04. Contracts volume 5, with 0 puts and 5 calls.
 Japan Index: up 4.56 to 156.69. Contracts volume 1,995, with 977 puts and 1,018 calls.
 Pharmaceutical Index: up .82 to 217.61. Contracts volume 436, with 137 puts and 299 calls.
 Computer Technology Index: up .60 to 121.60. Contracts volume 24, with 0 puts and 24 calls.
 Oil Index: up 2.48 to 238.45. Contracts volume 105, with 39 puts and 66 calls.
