 NEW YORK, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.49 to 384.55. Advances led declines 303 to 201 with 226 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose seven cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,619,280 shares, up from the 9,951,725 shares traded yesterday. There was no after-hours activity reported today.
 Topping the most active list was Amdahl, down 5/8 to 13-5/8 on 478,300 shares, followed by Exploration Company of Louisiana, up 1/16 to 1-1/4 on 403,000 shares. The third most active issue, Echo Bay Mines was unchanged at 6-1/2 on 336,900 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 137,100 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, Inc., unchanged at 1-3/16 on 36,200 shares.
 Trading in options was active today with 200,283 contracts changing hands as compared with 131,107 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Texaco August 70 series, up 1/8 to 8-1/8 on 4,000 contracts, followed by the U.S. Surgical August 90 series, down 5/16 to 1-5/8 on 2,391 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index August 335 series down 3/4 to 3/4 on 2,245 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Intergraph Corporation September 60 series, up 13/16 to 2-3/4 on 4,254 contracts, followed by the Pfizer Inc. September 80 series up 3/8 to 1-3/4 on 3,209 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index August 350 series, up 2-7/16 to 5-1/8 on 2,334 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up 1.74 to 143.92. Contracts volume 4,178, with 2,168 puts and 2,120 calls.
 Major Market Index: up 5.77 to 353.04. Contracts volume 43,563, with 19,857 puts and 23,706 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .57 to 35.30. Contracts volume 635, with 430 puts and 205 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 7.00 to 432.99. Contracts volume 5,296, with 4,155 puts and 1,141 calls.
