 NEW YORK, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 1.65 to 383.17. Declines led advances 288 to 210 with 226 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell five cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 10,408,410 shares, down from the 16,035,115 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 500 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 10,408,910 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Echo Bay Mines, up 1/8 to 6-5/8 on 749,500 shares, followed by Amdahl, down 1-3/4 to 15-5/8 on 449,700 shares. The third most active issue, Echo Bay Financial Preferred was unchanged at 25-1/2 on 424,100 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 235,300 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, up 1/16 to 3-13/16 on 53,200 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 129,967 contracts changing hands as compared with 119,676 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Intel Corporation October 50 series, unchanged at 1-1/4 on 4,008 contracts, followed by the Apple Computer October 40 series, up 1/2 to 1-1/2 on 2,885 contracts. The third most active was the Motorola October 75 series up 1/4 to 1-7/8 on 1,350 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Amgen August 65 series, up 3/4 to 2-1/4 on 3,136 contracts, followed by the Apple Computer August 45 series down 11/16 to 1-13/16 on 1,951 contracts. The third most active was the Nabisco September 10 series, unchanged at 3/16 on 1,299 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .93 to 141.70. Contracts volume 1,806, with 1,005 puts and 801 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 2.91 to 347.27. Contracts volume 10,240, with 6,474 puts and 3,766 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .29 to 34.73. Contracts volume 510, with 510 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 3.68 to 424.98. Contracts volume 1,956, with 1,081 puts and 875 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: down 3.68 to 424.98. Contracts volume 20, with 0 puts and 20 calls.
 Japan Index: down 4.49 to 156.74. Contracts volume 6,908, with 4,319 puts and 2,589 calls.
