 NEW YORK, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed mixed today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up .30 to 384.82. Declines led advances 258 to 238 with 225 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 16,035,115 shares, up from the 10,045,285 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled zero shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 16,035,115 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Digicon, down 1/4 to 4-3/8 on 2,717,800 shares, followed by Echo Bay Finance Preferred, down 1/8 to 25-1/2 on 1,116,100 shares. The third most active issue, Nabors Industries was down 1/8 to 7-3/4 on 1,049,200 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 178,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems up 1/4 to 3-3/4 on 62,800 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 119,676 contracts changing hands as compared with 144,505 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the U.S. Surgical August 90 series, up 5/8 to 3-1/4 on 1,144 contracts, followed by the Digital Equipment August 40 series, down 3/8 to 1-3/8 on 1,142 contracts. The third most active was the U.S. Surgical August 100 series up 3/4 to 8-1/4 on 858 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Major Market Index August 355 series, down 3/8 to 2-1/8 on 1,936 contracts, followed by the Apple Computer August 45 series up 3/8 to 2-1/2 on 1,641 contracts. The third most active was the Digital Equipment August 45 series, up 1/4 to 1-1/8 on 1,546 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: up .58 to 142.63. Contracts volume 381, with 151 puts and 230 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .40 to 350.18. Contracts volume 8,623, with 3,948 puts and 4,675 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .04 to 35.02. Contracts volume 65, with 65 puts and 0 calls.
 Institutional Index: up. 28 to 428.66. Contracts volume 1,648, with 901 puts and 747 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: up .28 to 428.66. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 Japan Index: up 1.13 to 161.23. Contracts volume 2,268, with 1,289 puts and 979 calls.
