 NEW YORK, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up .79 to 386.87. Advances led declines 283 to 238 with 218 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose two cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,354,795 shares, up from the 10,753,275 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled zero shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 11,354,795 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Exploration Company of Louisian, down 1/16 to 1-1/4 on 705,300 shares, followed by Echo Bay Mines, up 1/4 to 6-3/4 on 440,900 shares. The third most active issue, MedChem Products was up 1/4 to 8-3/4 on 290,700 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 191,600 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was AUDRE Recognition Systems, up 1/4 to 3-5/8 on 40,700 shares.
 Trading in options was very active today with 198,045 contracts changing hands as compared with 190,821 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the American Express October 25 series, up 3/16 to 1-13/16 on 2,238 contracts, followed by the American Express October 20 series, down 1/16 to 1/4 on 2,082 contracts. The third most active was the Seagate Technology July 15 series up 3/16 to 7/16 on 1,769 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the American Express October 22 1/2 series, down 7/16 to 2-3/8 on 2,763 contracts, followed by the Unisys July 10 series up 1/16 to 1/8 on 2,570 contracts. The third most active was the Unisys August 10 series, up 3/16 to 9/16 on 2,378 contracts.

 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .27 to 144.12. Contracts volume 5,150, with 2,349 puts and 2,801 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.00 to 355.03. Contracts volume 10,940, with 3,771 puts and 7,169 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .10 to 35.50. Contracts volume 1,580, with 170 puts and 1,410 calls.
